#1 Re: Support » Bootloader-Setup finished with Exitcode: 1 need help » 2012-10-08 22:31:18

@JMC I'm afraid installing Chakra without the bootloader and use the opensuse one didn't work. After installing Chakra grub will enter in grub rescue mode directly with a message saying "could not find device xxx.xx.xx.xxxx"

From opensuse webpage "openSUSE adopts the latest developments in Linux distribution technology as they mature. The GRUB2 bootloader is now the default, binaries are now located under /usr/bin, and during boot and shutdown Plymouth 0.8.6.1 provides flicker-free transitions and attractive animations."

From 12.2 opensuse use grub2 as default, it would be cool if Chakra could use the same grub2 as them to fix the issue as it seems I'm not the only one.

Thank You

Juan

#2 Re: Support » Bootloader-Setup finished with Exitcode: 1 need help » 2012-10-08 10:28:29

Hi,
Just as previously posted here the by other user complete log says:

"Error code: 1
Error message:
/usr/sbin/grub-bios-setup: warning: this LDM has no Embedding Partition; embedding won't be possible. /usr/sbin/grub-bios-setup: warning: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged.. /usr/sbin/grub-bios-setup: error: will not proceed with blocklists"

From what I understand this could because there is not enough space in the MBR or something like that, but because it didn't happen the same with burg or with Opensusse grub2 would discredit this option since is the same system.

Thank You

#3 Re: Support » Bootloader-Setup finished with Exitcode: 1 need help » 2012-10-08 04:46:44

Hello,
I'm having this issue since Chakra changed from Burg to grub2, I was never able to install the boot loader again with grub2. I have keep having this error: " Bootloader-Setup finished with Exitcode: 1"

The estrange thing is that the latest opensuse version that also use grub2 installs without issues.

Anyway this could be fixed in Chrakra, I really miss it

Thank You

Juan

#4 Re: Support - Testing » [sound-stack] 2012.02 update » 2012-02-20 02:46:46

Hi,

Is there any reason to have "esound" as a dependency for  gstreamer0.10-good-plugins? Is anyone using it? Don´t we only use alsa or pulseaudio in KDE?

Regards

Juan

#5 Re: Support - Unstable » KDE 4.8 pre-release » 2011-11-25 00:37:47

@Tyomzy you need to run on the commandline:

kwin_gles --replace &

Is not in the kwin configuration.

#6 Re: Support - Unstable » KDE 4.8 pre-release » 2011-11-24 04:27:18

Testing kwin_gles, is working great! Minimizing and closing effect seems faster.

Just some error messages (couldn't create image from  "/home/diau/overlay.png" ) when replacing kwin but doesn't seems to do any harm.

#7 Re: Support - Desktop » virtuoso-t » 2011-10-14 21:40:50

Oblivion, you are my HERO!!!!!!!!!!

I tried everything, new strigi-git on repositories, deleting nepomuk db, compiling nepomuk and strigi myself and I always got 90% CPU usage when indexing.

After you suggestion indexing only take %2 CPU.

Finally I can have indexing enabled in my KDE, THANK YOU!!!!

It would be great if this can be fixed mainstream.

#8 Re: PKGBUILD Requests » [solved] systemd » 2011-06-20 08:28:47

Hi,
I installed systemd, the new initscripts and systemd units from the testing repositories, I must says is working pretty good.

Compared with the version I installed from CCR, I didn't have issues with networkmanger, the host name and KDESU.

Still having issues with Virtuoso-t having a segfault when systemd is installed:

segfault at ffffffffffffffff ip 00000000007bbaef sp 00007f2b34f2b210 error 6 in virtuoso-t[400000+911000]

and this error:

Cannot add dependency job for unit arch-daemons.target, ignoring: Unit arch-daemons.target failed to load: No such file or directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details.

This last error could be my fault. I tested systemd from CCR with arch linux initscripts, maybe something wasn't uninstalled correctly.

Any info in how to solve this issues?

This is a command line front end for network manager, really useful for times when x or KDE GUI break and you are force to use the console. In my case I only connect thought wifi so if I boot in console mode I don't have internet access.

cnetworkmanager gives me the possibility to use my wifi connection using network manager without any Gui.

There is an existing PKGBUILD in AUR

Thank You in advance

#12 Re: Support - Core » High-resolution timers are not available from the kernel » 2011-05-07 23:04:58

Sorry, I agree with you this should be in the systemd topic.
I didn't know it was a systemd issue in my first post.

Thank You

#13 Re: Support - Core » High-resolution timers are not available from the kernel » 2011-05-07 18:30:13

Hi philm,
Thank you for the response, I found a thread about this issue and it seems that is a bug with systemd and pulse audio.

The solution is to update to rtkit-0.10-1 but also with a PAM config file rewrite by ruining "authconfig --update".

The only issue now is that I can find authconfig, do you know if this is this a Fedora only tool or is in a package I need to install in Chakra?

Here is the thread, the resolution is suggested by systemd and pulseaudio creator

Hi,
I got the following message from pulse-audio?

pulseaudio[2754]: alsa-util.c: Disabling timer-based scheduling because high-resolution timers are not available from the kernel.

Is possible to get this option activated in the kernel?

I'm using

uname -a

#15 Re: Discussion » Startup & Shutdown delays? » 2011-05-07 05:45:57

I made a search of udev+boot delays and I found a work around, I added acpi=off to grub and know is booting without the need of pressing a key. It seems that only happen with some motherboard chipsets.

I wonder if this will be fixed mainstream so I don't have to disable acpi.

#17 Re: PKGBUILD Requests » [solved] systemd » 2011-05-03 22:59:32

@Teho:

This is how your configure part should be:

./configure --prefix=/usr \
              --with-rootdir= \
              --with-distro=other \
              --sysconfdir=/etc \
              --libexecdir=/usr/lib \
              --localstatedir=/var \
              --disable-audit \
              --disable-tcpwrap \
              --disable-gtk

I think when you added  --with-distro=other you may have forgot to add a \ and that's why it didn't take the --disable-gtk option.
Also don't forget to install rsyslog before systemd.

#18 Re: PKGBUILD Requests » [solved] systemd » 2011-05-03 17:15:32

@Teho: I installed using packman -Ud dbus-core-systemd and it worked.

@WillingMagic: Thank You for the  PKGBUILD!!!

libnotify should only be at optdepends and not makedepends or you will need to install gtk2 as dependency.

makedepends=('docbook-xsl' 'libxslt' 'cryptsetup' 'libnotify')
optdepends=('cryptsetup: required for encrypted block devices'
            'dbus-python: systemd-analyze'
            'gtk2: systemadm'
'initscripts-systemd: native boot and initialization scripts'
            'libnotify: systemadm'
            'python2-cairo: systemd-analyze'
'systemd-arch-units: collection of native unit files for Arch daemon/init scripts')

I was able to install it and is also booting faster, but I cant use wi-fi. Networkmanager doesn't seems to be loading correctly.

#19 Re: Discussion » Startup & Shutdown delays? » 2011-04-30 19:42:58

This began to happen in my system when distributions included udev and it happens to all opensuse and chakra version I used.
I have to press any key to continue the booting process or shutdown process.

Hi,
I think it will be really interesting if we could test systemd in Chakra. There is already a PKGBUILD in AUR.

Here is really good article called "Why systemd?" by systemd developer, that compare systemd with sysvinit and appstart.

#21 Re: Support - Testing » telepathy-gabble gtk? » 2011-04-17 17:10:58

Will telepathy-gabble be able to work without libsoup or automatically use wherever we have in kde for this work?

libsoup is an HTTP client/server library for GNOME. It uses GObjects and the glib main loop, to integrate well with GNOME applications, and also has a synchronous API, for use in threaded applications.
Features include:
Both asynchronous (GMainLoop and callback-based) and synchronous APIs
Automatically caches connections
SSL Support using GnuTLS
Proxy support, including authentication and SSL tunneling
Client support for Digest, NTLM, and Basic authentication
Server support for Digest and Basic authentication
Client and server support for XML-RPC

Hi,
I'm using Chakra 2011.04 Milestone 4 - x64 with updates up to date, so I think now it should be Milestone 5.

Network Manager fails on boot, I have to load it manually every time in order to work.

Please advise

Thank you in advance

@venky80 yes it seems to be working ok, at least it downloaded the events form gcalendar and the contacts, I still didnt test creating events and contacts in koctact and check if they are sync in gmail.

#25 Re: Support - Unstable » KDEPim beta 5 available for testing » 2011-04-10 18:51:43

@manutortosa: I removed the Google resources, restarted akonadi and added them again and now Google contact and calendar are working and syncing. I suppose that after I reinstalled akonadi from testing this got fixed too.
