me and the other of Persian Chakra user have problem with subtitle in players like vlc , smplayer ....
our language is Farsi/Persian and for seeing subtitle correctly must fribidi 0.19.2 be installed !
but this package is in DVD by default and doesnt work !
when i had kubuntu i have no problem with subtitles after compiling fribidi 0.19.2 !

how can I fix it ?

This package is in EXTRA, try to remove them and reinstall, but delete first this package from your cache (in /var/cache/pacman/pkg) to make sure you get an fresh package.

Try too to install perl-text-bidi from community.

i think mplayer must be compiled with fribidi support to to show persian subtitle properly !

you should compile it using this PKGBUILD, just be sure that you've fribidi installed before starting makepkg

Finaly I and my friends in Chakra Persian Team build this package for supporting fribidi in mplayer !
also the mplayer-fribidi package in AUR has problem....

to replace mplayer with mplayer-fribidi just run these commands:

Weird! I have no problem with Persian subtitles. They work in both Smplayer and VLC!
I have kdemod on Arch linux. Mplayer 29776-1 from extra. Freebidi 0.19.2-1.

OOps I have no problem with bitmap subtitles but as of *.srt and *.sub subtitles I can confirm the problem. They are not displayed correctly.

you must set subtitle encoding to " Arabic Windows (CP1256) " to see persian srt subtitle properly. sub/idx subtitle dont have problem ...
