Whatever ... Just pushing it:

http://www.semi-gas.com/images/modular_gas_panels.jpg

... we have to push it a little harder wink

Will fix the typo if I had to patch the iso but it seems it is just fine. It was 1 am as I compiled it ...

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

OK, I just installed it on my laptop, nice work as always, i'll point on little things (and mainly post-install stuff):

- I get error messages on kde startup (livecd AND local setup):
Kglobalaccel - The application KMix has registered a new global shortcut
Kglobalaccel - The application Klipper has registered a new global shortcut

- Font anti-aliasing does not work AT ALL with kdm  - username shows pretty ugly
(as for the KDM manager when loading it after giving the root pass)

- Konsole fonts either

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Florut, those notification messages are comming from KDE 4.4 RC1. Antialiasing and kdm is a known problem. Konsole fonts we have the problem since beta1. Seems terminus don't work with newest kde. Change it to monospace and you'll be fine.

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Just wanted to give an update, tried to burn the img to usb from windows and I get SQUASHFS errors followed by kernel panic.

Is there a different method to do than the usbimgcreator that used to work now that it's larch7?

No problem, i can manage this type of "config issue"... It was just to say.

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Tested it in virtualbox and livecd iso is starting and works, but if it try to install it ( in virtualbox ) i have 2 problems. 1st problem is localization i have to hand pick it in pull down section, the marks on the map i can't see also not when i zoom in. And partition section i make 3  partitions / swap and /home but if i try next it say i did not selected a / ( root ). I'm sure i have done it and used ext2 ext3 and ext4 but a no go. The localization could be a virtualbox problem maybe but second problem i do not know.

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

First of all: cities in earthball are gone again. It's a known bug from older development releases. Use the drop-downmenu for selecting locales.
Tribe is almost the same version like geryon has. It should work for partioning.

For the x86_64 release: I'm still struggling with addedpacks file to hit 700 MB target. Have to remove pkgs to get it on cd. For beta1 there might be no minimal-version for x86_64-arch since kdemod 4.4 pkgs are bigger now.

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Ignore my last message, I think I corrupted the iso when I was moving between machines somehow.  Running in virtualbox right now and I'm only seeing the known problems.

Thanks Amnon82, no rush I was just wondering if there was a x86_64 release coming. Looking forward to testing it

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Great work so far.
Installation went successfully and was very fast! The 81% bug is fixed, right?
And X didn't crash during the installation (it did sometimes on alpha4 here).

Bugs I've found:
- KDM shows no Background after Installation - just black.
- After installation konqueror is still the default browser
- new Shaman always asks for user password for permission - but sudo is not enabled, I'm still using root wink
- Chakra Galaxair gets stretched on 16:9 devices - loogs ugly
- the new Galaxair Wallpaper should be set to "Scaled and Cropped" to fill the whole screen

Suggestions:
- Replace aurora with rekonq. It has FTP-Support, Google search in addressbar, Tab-Preview, Mouse sidebutton support, optimized for netbooks (statusbar, menubar...), private mode,
- Use ttf-android from aur as system font. Looks much better: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22528
- Use another terminal font for konsole (monospace or droidsans mono?)
- Are 4 virtual desktops neccessary?

Dennis

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

First of all: thx for testing. Galaxair uses your screen resolution as wallpaper. Start tribe from console with

Code:

sudo tribe

and post the install log. Also check what background.jpg is linked. It works on my pc so. It totally based on your resoltution. Save file is 1280x800 sized.

x86_64 release:

It was close. 701 MB is it big. k3b should work since a 700 mb empty cd has 702.82 MB free space.
Tell me if that is a problem. Also report any bug back you find in this latest rls. I fixed some we found in 10-01-09 already.

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Hi!

I confirm it works to burn the x86_64 version (701 MB) on to a "700 MB" CD with K3b. When I ran the Live CD installation I initially picked the default free packages/drivers, but that resulted in a black screen. I have an nVidia graphics card, so I made a new attempt and picked the non-free option, and then all the beautiful graphics appeared. I installed Smplayer, set up a storage disk, and for now all seems to work very well. Better than Alpha4  smile

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Thx nixy for testing my new bleeding edge development release. KDEmod pkgs are even not final yet. With the x86_64 I fixed alot bugs we still have in i686 release of aesop. Will do a rebuild of i686 later this week. I changed some stuff since alpha4. Hope we will get our chakra-tools better since shaman2 might still not work properly. Also tribe still has it's issues in partition page. Also we need to tweak our addedpacks lists to see what should be on and off the disc. Getting it on 700 MB is getting harder ...

Re: [Dev-RLS] 2010-01-09-Aesop (KDEmod 4.4 RC1 LiveCD)

Looked at i686 Aesop on two computers yesterday. At work, I booted it on my desktop computer that has dual Pentium 4 processors and Intel 828656G video. It booted up to KDM and I could not log in as either the user or root - it just bounced me back to KDM.

At home on my Thinkpad, also with Intel video, it booted directly to the desktop and I installed it to my main partition. Alpha 3 was the last Chakra live CD I used with this computer (alpha 4 wouldn't boot due to the intel video issues), and things seem to have come a long way since then. Tribe worked beautifully (aside from the cities not working on the globe). Install went without a hitch.

KDE 4.4 RC1 looks nice, and any font issues were tolerable on my thinkpad. Chase and Shaman2, even after playing with policykit settings, were the only things keeping it from being usable. But they are development versions and that should be expected, and I'll save comments on them for their respective threads. From a live cd/installer point of view, I was pretty impressed. Themes and artwork are looking very nice too. It would be really cool if plymouth with matching theming could make it into the beta release, as it looks great when following the instructions on the wiki.
