Welcome to the development-release thread. Here you can find my latest chakra live-media based on kdemod-testing and larch7.
Grap latest Release here ...
How to test best
* write which hardware you tested (video, audio, cpu)
* start tribe with sudo tribe from console to get install.log
* re-run installation by starting tribe with desktop file
* try it from usb-stick and from cd (if you can)
* try to install it on real hardware (if you can - virtualbox is also fine)
* test stuff normal user would do

=> OK, i didn't see any problem live or installed... Fonts problems are now fixed![]()
Offline
Ok. thats great. Manuel is patching some scripts to get more fixes and it all more compatible.
Offline
Same here, the only "problem" is the duplicated device manager (i'm searching a fix for this) the rest are really good, installation was fast and no troubles.
Offline
I actually had a lot of trouble, but nothing too bad. First, tribe couldn't mount my partitions. Then (second try) it couldn't unmount them. (for format) Ah, the irony.
Ok, after that i found that if i chose my locale, post install would fail. 5th try, on english fully, wasn't able to access my other HD. Apparently "it didn't have a partition table". Considering i'm using it right now, something probably was wrong.
After a few more runs, i decide to avoid setting a mountpoint for the drive and go on. Gladly, the live enviroment was fast as hell, so i could search easily to resolve all issues. Finally it installed, and was completely worth it. The only thing wrong left (and is driving me crazy) is that hostname is "localhost" (despite the fact i changed it on tribe). In rc.conf is my hostname, so the problem must be /etc/hosts. I edit it, properly, save as root and on reboot it resets. So if anyone has any ideasi'll appreciate it.
With all and all, a good release. (Shaman2 crashes every 5 seconds or so, when browsing packages, btw).
All bug reports sent, so this is just an unnecessary rant.

We are using here early development releases. What locales did you use? This release might have lot's of bugs regarding to kde pkgs.
The bases should be stable now (larch7, hardware detection scripts, tribe). "localhost" issue you get also when you upgrade to kde 4.4 from a 4.3 system. I noticed also the fast speed of our live-mode. I'm glad to have that.
I and Manuel are tweaking settings to get the backends more compatible for some issues he and some friends still have. Also catalan and hispanic translations got better support now.
Shaman2 is in heavy development. Maybe I did a bad snapshot. It should be used at all. I just add it to see if it compiles in kde 4.4.
We are planing to release a stable chakra version with KDEmod 4.4.1. Before that we release Aesop-Rebuilds. Next full rebuild will have KDEmod 4.4 RC2 on it.
Offline
I uploaded a new rebuild of Aesop. Funny thing is: We got it smaller now (626 MB). Next rebuild will get printer-related pkgs back.

Yeah, i don't really mind the problems, is really worth it. Locales were es_CO es_CO.utf8 es_ES es_ES.utf8 . The bases are really solid, i expected a lot of more problems related to larch7. The localhost issue, i was not aware of. And as for shaman2, looks way better that shaman1, which also crashed often but was slower. Reminds me of Kpackagekit when it got included on kubuntu in replacement of adept, as for early stage software is quite on the right path. As is chakra.
With all and all, i have proper hardware recognition, sound and network out of the box. That's more than i have grown to expect.
Also, when "sudo tribe" is used, does its parttion manager has superuser permissions too? because for my mount-unmount issues all that was missing was a sudo. I forgot to mention that before.
OK, up to try the new dev-release. Keep up the good work!

Well I'm rebuilding again. Seems I found now the right pkgs for minimal profile. I upload a patch for latest dev-rls and upload the new image also.
Larch7 should work now. In my past releases I didn't found any problems regarding larch7. Most are cosed of kdemod-testing pkgs.
With KDE SC 4.4 RC2 out, most of the problems you posted now should be solved.
Latest changes in Rebuld2 of Aesop:
Build notice:
* updated aqpm-tools (tribe, aqpm, shaman2, chase)
* updated soprano-2.3.70-0.5, virtuoso-5.0.12-0.1 and libiodbc-3.52.7-0.2
* i686 build only
* readded printer-related pkgs
* replaced konqueror and konversation with rekonq and quassel
Patch notice:
* set mouse theme Oxygen_Black for root
* add DBUS to job-rcconf-daemons to fix avahi warnings
* fixing some long lines in ca.cfg and es.cfg
* fix logout and set kdm mouse theme to Oxygen_Black

Hah, I was just coming by to say I was having problems with Aesop rebuild1. I'll try again after the second rebuild.

I got a warning on boot up about udev already running I think, and then some xorg problems on start. I ran it on an Eee 1000HE. Intel KMS worked, but when KDM got to last stage (the K logo) it went black and then a tiny little window appeared. Cursor still worked, and switching to VC1 was fine as well. I will try to get some more details when I get home tonight.
Offline
The udev problem I see aswell. Just rechecked all images of aesop:
chakra-minimal-i686-2010-01-10-aesop.iso: ok
chakra-minimal-i686-2010-01-14-aesop-rebuild.iso: udev error
chakra-minimal-i686-2010-01-14-aesop-rebuild2.iso: udev error
chakra-minimal-i686-2010-01-14-aesop-rebuild3.iso: udev error
Manuel and I are on that problem. We think it is pkg-related since we didn't change system-related stuff in our scripts as you can see in our changes in git:

So I just tried the latest release (14-01-10) but I can't get through the installation process.
Here's what happened:
I launched tribe thanks to the "Installation" icon of the Desktop widget. Everything was working fine until the progress bar hit 93% ("Creating initial ramdisk images"). I got the following eror message:
Installation failed! The following error has been reported: Error in Postinstall script. See log for more details.
Tribe will now quit, please check the installation logs in /tmp
or ask for help in our forums.
Actually, in /tmp, initramfs.log was empty and I couldn't find anything Tribe-related.
I tried to run the installer right after the first one in a terminal and it crashed when I was supposed to select the timezone.

I also noticed that the screen flickers a lot whenever I click on the drop-down menus (i.e. to chose the locale, the timezone, mountpoints, ...)
I'm not sure what information I can provide to make this bug report more useful but I can reproduce almost everything.

I own an ATI card so I'm stuck with the free drivers.
I was using the radeon driver yesterday, but I don't remember if compositing was active or not so I will give it another shot later.
I tried the vesa driver a minute ago and it was even worse.
The marble stage kept crashing all the time.

Hi,
I'm running fresh install of "aesop-rebuild3".
Setup was fast and fine, really no problem (except udev error mentionned in this thread).
The only thing I noticed is a locale problem with Chase: special characters are not dislayed (i.e. "Dmarrer Shaman" instead of "Démarrer Shaman" when right-clicking on systray chase icon.
...but it may be a know problem ?
BTW: shaman2 does not crash but does not want to update db either (Pre-uptate hooks runs indefinitely)

I take a look into the french translation of Chase, is has a bad codification or somethink like this, it may be fixed:
http://git.chakra-project.org/tools/cha … hase_fr.po

OK so I did (fixed accents, locale and some typos).
As a noob, I followed wiki and I hope everything went fine, patch sent to drf by mail (1st time using git, always been using SVN).

Ok guys. I've a new build. All the latest fixes. I installed it sucessful on my netbook with intel-gfx using free drivers. Marble worked and ramdisk creation was ok. Also I updated to newest pkgs incl. latest Kernel.
Release Note
Chakra-Minimal Development Release [Aesop]
We can drive - why not using the gas pedal ?!?
Bleeding edge, So might be this development release based on Larch7.
This release is based on latest Geryon patches for larch7. It has
all new pkgs on it, like KDE 4.4 RC1 and newest developer versions
of Shaman2 and Chase.
Please visit the forum to report bugs.
Hope we will see Beta1 soon ...
With love,
Phil Miller - Chakra-ISO-Builder
System Requirements:
* a Intel Pentium II or higher processor for the i686 version, or
* a 64Bit-capable processor for the x86_64 version
* 384MiB of RAM for running the live system and 512MiB of RAM for the installation (the more the better)
* around 3 Gib of available hard disk space (the more the better)
* a screen capable of 1024 x 600 or higher resolution
* a reasonably fast internet connection, e.g. no modem (you wont have fun with this)
Most noticeable changes & additions since Alpha4:
Features:
* Kernel-2.6.32.3 with lzma support
* Xorg-Server 1.7.3.902-1
* KDEmod 4.4 RC1
* Chakra tools updated (aqpm, shaman, chase)
* Catalyst support temp. dropped
* NVidia-190 and NVidia legancy series are the only propertary drivers atm
* using ARM state (2010.01.15)
Build notice:
* updated aqpm-tools (tribe, aqpm, shaman2, chase)
* updated soprano-2.3.70-0.5, virtuoso-5.0.12-0.1 and libiodbc-3.52.7-0.2
* i686 build only
Patch notice:
* fixed fonts in root
* notifications fix (try1)
* fix kdemod-parted issue
* fix antialasing in kdm
* set mouse theme Oxygen_Black for root
* add DBUS to job-rcconf-daemons to fix avahi warnings
* fixing some long lines in ca.cfg and es.cfg
* fix logout and set kdm mouse theme to Oxygen_Black
* add czech translation
disc created by Phil Miller (Amnon82 - Chakra ISO-Builder)Also I fixed the kdemod-parted bug. This pkgs and all related pkgs are now in the repo chakra so kdemod-core and [/b]kdemod-testing[/b] using parted and partitionmanager from extra-repo. Tribe-2010-01-15 installs those pkgs from overlay. All in all this is my best release yet. Test it and report back.
