Chakra-Minimal Development Release [Panora-Preview3] Build: 2010-02-14
We past crazy days. KDEmod 4.4.0 release was a bumpy ride. Lot's of people posted
many troubles updating from chakra-alpha4 to that new release, so Manuel and I took
some time and started to work on livescripts2 again. It wasn't easy and we almost
jumped out of the window but we managed to keep grounded.
Our next stable release will be called Panora and will be out by March. This is the
third preview of this release. Internally we tested the other two which where
broken so we didn't released it for the public. After many tests we have a new
development release we can share. Please test this image and report back any
bugs you can find so we can have a new stable release soon.
With love,
Phil Miller & Manuel Tortosa- Chakra-ISO-Builder

Known bugs
* offline mirror routine broken (fixed in git)
* live-mode mirrorlist points to wrong mirror url (already fixed in git)
*After install edit your /etc/pacman.conf by changing kdemod-testing to kdemod-core and delete kdemod-tools
*For using Shaman2, edit the last line in aqpm.conf to: DbOrder=kdemod-core, kdemod-extragear, kdemod-playground, community, core, extra
Arch=x86_64/i686 Choose your correct version
Tips
* Start tribe with kdesu tribe (password is "root"]
* update tribe with sudo pacman -Sy kdemod-tribe kdemod-tribe-debug
* If needed restart tribe with kdesu or press ALT+N to get to next page (marble page makes troubles in i686)

i686:
On Laptop with Intel video card:
Clicking on tribe: hangs on license
Just typing tribe from the Konsole: reaches disk stage, no hdd detected
Typing kdesu tribe: hangs at license or marble
Tried with USB & CD
On Desktop with Nvidia card:
Just tribe from the konsole: Crashes at marble
sudo tribe: install finished, some problems accepting the first license, had to select disagree first, before I could select agree.
Installed with USB, network connected, mirror-list setup checked, American-English.

New tribe version out there:
* update tribe with sudo pacman -Sy kdemod-tribe kdemod-tribe-debug
* If needed restart tribe with kdesu or press ALT+N to get to next page (marble page makes troubles in i686)
* try new tribe with sudo pacman -Rd kdemod-partitionmanager kdemod-tribe-debug --noconfirm && sudo pacman -Sy chakra-tribe chakra-tribe-debug

i686 on laptop:
Tried both methods, update Tribe, tribe hangs at license after using form konsole: tribe, sudo tribe or kdesu tribe, Alt N causes crash or error message and still hangs
Installing new tribe, crashes at license with any of the above methods.

I have to rebuild the marble pkgs in i686 since not only I have the problem. On my netbook also with intel gfx it sometimes work, some not all. You have other pcs like nvidia gfx? Have to try it on some of my pcs at work. Did you tried to start it as normal via desktop-file? x86_64 seems to be more stable since I did the pkgs there. I'll see if a rebuild of marble will help us in i686.
New tribe seems not to work since new partition-page isn't finished yet. It is only to test if the new page integrates well into our installer.
We have to find out if only i686 has the marble problems or x86_64 does the same on some configurations. For that please post back a proper test-result: http://chakra-project.org/temp/prerelea … all.passed

x86_64 on laptop:
Absolute no problems, did not do any updates to Tribe, started by clicking on "install" on the desktop, no crashes, no hang-ups. Installed from cd.
Offline
In both versions i686 & x86_64 pacman.conf & aqpm.conf have kdemod-testing and kdemod-tools enabled, will need to change to kdemod-core and delete kdemod-tools before pacman -Syu
Offline
Anke thx for the report. Fixed that for next build.
chakra-tribe is not usable for installation. Just a compile proof to see if that works atm. Also I'm testing if my conflict/replaces string working so we can test this tribe version in development with any new Panora-Preview build.
We found some bugs so there will be some xdeltas coming up soon ![]()

I did some rebuilds of kdemod-tribe:
sudo pacman -Sy kdemod-tribe kdemod-tribe-debug
... this might fix the marble-crash in i686.

The new mkinitcpio breaks larch7:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 53#p709053
Michael Towers will adjust larch7-live hooks when he finds time.
Our code of larch-live can be found here:
http://git.chakra-project.org/chakra/li … larch-live
This means live-scripts1 are out of business for good. I updated my host-system with mkinitcpio and didn't found any errors yet.

I hope I fixed the udev-boot bug in larch7 larch-live pkg. Also Dario managed to get a working tribe with new partitioner out there. I just finished with qtmod 4.6.2 so more stability will be there. A new ISO is in making so stay tuned for a image or xdelta-patch.

xdelta file, when?

Installed x86_64 on 3 more PC's, with free & non-free drivers, no problems at all.
Tried one more Intel (Toshiba Laptop) i686, got to Marble once, no further.

Did you check if your language pack is on the server? Maybe retry and choose us_en

Hm. I would like to update my test report. I tried many more options.
This is all about this image:
Image: chakra-x86_64-2010-02-14-panora-preview3.iso
The report is all the same as previous exept for:
Usb-Bootable: yes thanks to Lili USB creator
Install-progress: Installprogress-Page: (Error message at 93%: ) Installation failed! Error in Postinstall script. See log for more details. Tribe will now quit, pls check installation logs in /tmp (here they are)
So update with a new one:
Usb-Bootable: yes thanks to isohybrid and dd
Bootmenu-Selection: french/free drivers
Started Tribe with: sudo tribe from console
Install-progress: fine
Reboot: does not automatically reboot after tribe end
Installed system: boots fine until it's KDM time to boot; then, i'm facing a blank screen
Usb-Bootable: yes thanks to isohybrid and dd
Bootmenu-Selection: french/proprietary drivers (see my signature for my hardwr)
Started Tribe with: sudo tribe from console
Marble-Page: en_US selected / english language
Live-cd : boots fine until it's KDM time to boot; then, i'm facing a blank screen
Usb-Bootable: yes thanks to isohybrid and dd
Bootmenu-Selection: American/free drivers
Started Tribe with: sudo tribe from console
Marble-Page: en_US selected / english language
Install-progress: fine
Reboot: does not automatically reboot after tribe end
Installed system: boots fine until it's KDM time to boot; then, i'm facing a blank screen
I also tried to remove xorg.conf, but i face black screen with white artefacts.
I'm not familiar with nvidia cards but it seems the problem come from there...

For nvidia you need the non-free drivers. So maybe try that with en_US?

I already did, see my test reports (if it's not clear, please tell me)

The first one is installed with the right driver, but it might be a problem that French was selected for the bootmenu.
Second one has the wrong driver selected.

Sorry... something is missing: if I select non-free drivers (any language), the live-cd do not even start (blank screen instead of KDM start). So I cannot try.
THIS problem is not chakra-related (I suppose), but still I would like to understand how the live cd could work perfectly with free drivers, and after installing it is not.
Does tribe install non-free drivers no matter the choice at bootup?
Offline
Sorry, my bad, I just assumed when I saw GeForce, it would take the nvidia 190.53 driver. I tried to look up your card, and see if Nvidia supports it under Linux, but I can't find a definite answer. The way I understand Chakra checks hardware, is first look for the need for non-free drivers. So if this card does not support nvidia 190.53, it could be Chakra installs that one anyway, maybe someone here can shed some light on that.
But did you check KDE Info Center > OpenGL, to see how your card was configured in the LiveCD, after starting up with the free drivers? You might have to use those settings after the install.
