Yes, this is pointless topic but I just remind you to keep the distro simple. You guys are doing what I've been wishing from a long time ago....Arch+Kdemod+Easytoinstall = GREAT!!
So, this is some sort of request. Don't become like ubuntu or fedora....don't install every kde application from the beginning. Just give some freedom to the user. I'd like a distro that installs kde, BUT just the basic that kde needs, not all the kde applications.
Recently I've installed Fedora on my computer and I was soo full of things haha. Even the games come installed!!!.
Well, just that. Keep up the great work and congratulations.

Yeah, at all, it's Arch, so it's KISS! ![]()
I don't think we will install things like games etc on our default installation, because 1) we would have to compress the cd-image which would make the booting dramatically slow
and 2) we won't ship this, as it does really not belong to the needs of a standard KDE-User...
At the end the CD will be full anyway, because we will ship KOffice2 with the final Version...

Are you sure about this?. I mean, lots of people use OpenOffice so, maybe it's a waste of bandwith. In my opinion, if somebody (me included) wants to try out the new koffice 2, he or she will download it like any other program. There isn't too much benefit in "forcing" people to try that specific suite.
This is just my opinion. I think you should just provide basic kde functionaly and nothing else. You guys are developing shaman so you will be sure that if a regular (non geekie) user needs an office suite, they can use shaman to get it. Couldn't be simpler. The cd image (or usb) should be as small as possible to make the distro easier to get and distribute.
But well, this is your distro and you can do with it whatever you want.
Happy christmas to everyone.

Well OpenOffice sucks imo, it's really slow and not very well integrated into KDE... also as I told you before, we have space problems then...
Anyway, KOffice2 rocks, really! The guys have done a great job in doing an innovative Office-Suite... that should be supported (just my opinion
)...
Also I don't think we can force anyone to anything, you can still uninstall KOffice2 and reinstall OpenOffice...

Yes, I know. But that way I will be downloading Koffice (because it's IN the ditro image) and then OpenOffice. Like I said......a waste of bandwidth.
Nevermind. This is just my opinion. Do whatever you want with the distro.
Thanks anyway for the feedback.
Bye.

KOffice 2 will be preferred to OOo for the same reason grounded in KISS. KOffice 2 will do (in a pair of months), the same things OOo does with a better integration, twice the speed and a quarter of space on disk. The complete KOffice will be around 30MB of packages, so it's not a big waste of bandwidth (OOo is about 130MB if I recall correctly)

Wow, I really didn't know that. The same things that OOo do and just 30MB!!!??. This is great news. It was time to get rid of OOo anyway haha.
Thanks for the replies. Happy Christmas

I don't think that KOffice will do the same things OOo can do in only a few months. The initial 2.0 release will be a release targeted at developers and interested Linux users, but it not meant as a replacement for an office suite used on a daily basis. It will take a lot of time (and more developers who will hopefully flock to the project after the 2.0 release) to implement the things that are planned. And there will always be features OOo has which for example KWord cannot deliver (docx, etc.). Nonetheless, it is a great project and I am looking forward to 2.0.

Don't become like ubuntu or fedora....
I thought the same when seeing this new website for the first time.
But after reading http://www.chakra-project.org/about-faq.html#faq3 and seeing that Tools really works the simple way as described, I believe developers of Chakra don't want to be like those heavy "it works until you touch it" distros.

I would like this distro to only be Arch + kdemod(pacman -S kdemod) + your stuff like shaman, arxin etc nothing else. Let the users decide what additional apps from kdemod, koffice etc to install.
+1 Thanks and keep up the good work.

Well actually that's it mostly, indeed... just in case of KOffice we think that we should have an Office-Packet on the CD...

I like having KOffice2 on the CD; not everyone has the bandwidth to download hundreds of megabytes in minutes.
