KDE 4.4.5 packages are out!

Are we going to get these for KDEmod (i686 & 86_64)?

Re: KDE 4.4.5 packages are out!

Well first we build always Chakra GNU/Linux. KDEmod will always have a delay of one week. Check our new repos out wink

So will KDEmod transition into Chakra or can you convert to Chakra? Is Chakra independent of Arch Linux completely now?

Re: KDE 4.4.5 packages are out!

No, KDEmod will not transition into Chakra GNU/Linux.  Some users have successfully transferred their KDEmod install, by changing to the Chakra GNU/Linux (phoix atm) mirrors.
All packages in every repo are compiled from scratch, there is no Arch package connected.  The package manager is still Pacman, so there certainly is a connection to Arch that way.

1 - Tell us your architecture (i686 or x86_64), either in the thread title or in the posting itself
2 - Provide as much info as you can gather (backtraces, console output, chakra-version etc etc)
3 - Mark your post as solved with [SOLVED] in the title if your problem has been resolved (just edit your post)

Re: KDE 4.4.5 packages are out!

But will KDEmod cease to exist at some point?

Re: KDE 4.4.5 packages are out!

As maintained by Chakra, yes, KDEmod will not be supported as soon as Phoix is a stable release.
But all PKGBUILD and repo info is available, so of course there is a chance someone else will take over KDEmod.

Re: KDE 4.4.5 packages are out!

I don't get it, why did you guys decided to totally part ways with arch?

Does this mean that I'll be forced to choose either convert from kdemod to kde-extra or switch everything to this new distro (in alpha stage).

I wish I won't have to do that because one of the reasons I finally settled on arch besides being rock solid was that it's been around for a while and so it has just about any package I ever wished for (which never happened before in any other distro i've been through, not even gentoo) because of the power of KISS and AUR. With Chackra breaking away now it has few packages, 1000 last post I read about, and although I appreciate minimizing gtk dependencies bundling gtk with every package that needs it seems very unefficient.

I don't know what to say, I feel my confidence in kdemod was betrayed. But I don't want to feel that way, I'm sure you have good reasons and great plans.

Can you please explain to a chackra-clueless guy what's going on/about to happen/plans?

There is a lot of info about this on the website, for example http://chakra-project.org/news/index.ph … oject.html
and the forums, especially this thread http://chakra-project.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=2688

Re: KDE 4.4.5 packages are out!

Here some short faqs to Chakra GNU/Linux:

* is a indepented distro using pacman as pkgmanager atm.
* KDE SC is the old KDEmod pkgs
* will be beta by end of this year with the release of E.D.N.
* has 10 core-developers

And some for KDEmod:

* uses still Arch/Linux as base
* only kdemod-core will be maintained for now
* has 1 developer (abveritas) atm
* needs some maintainers
* I'm helping Anke to start to build some kdemod-pkgs

As soon as Chakra GNU/Linux got released with E.D.N. all developers will focus on the new distro.

KDEmod 4.4.5 will get released this weekend.
