New Chakra ISO

I just wanted to post here to say how amazed I am by the new ISO and the amount that has changed!

I wanted to say thankyou to the devs for such a great experience with the new release of the ISO (even though I run chakra daily, I still try to test the livecds). The new plasma with the explainations of the project is a great idea and one I fully support.

The apps added to the DVD are really good for a base and included an app that I had only read about (Qupzilla) which i am actually using now.

Clementine being included on the DVD is a huge bonus as is Imagewriter and K3B.

Again great work to all involved in this!. I just wanted to show my appreciation for the work you are all doing, I think you are all amazing for giving us all this work.

Re: New Chakra ISO

As soon as our own package manager (akabei) replaces pacman, a new GUI will be available for it. AppSetQt is just a temporary solution till then.

Re: New Chakra ISO

Congratulations for your awesome work!

I'm using chakra at work on a oldie Core 2 with 3GB ram and it flies!
I consider KDE more mature above other WM or DE, and you guys had get a performance in KDE that I cannot get myself in any other distro! Very good magic indeed!

A personal petition, sometimes I must connect to a RMM (remote management consoles) on clients to perform some operations on their BIOS or to view messages on boot or other maintenance tasks I could only do if I were in front of the server. I usually use nx for that purpose, and open a firefox to open the RMM (all this stuff are javaws-based), but NX on Chakra simply doesn't work. Nor ccr, neither the code on nomachine...

If I connect via ssh -X it becomes horribly slow. I must install a VM with arch and connect through that VM.

So my petition would be NX (client) on chakra... you can consider to put it besides vnc or rdp...

The other thing I miss from arch or gentoo is their huge community repository (aur or overlays). I know chakra has packer, but It simply fails on most of AUR packages I installed... ccr is not a solution either, it works better than packer but there are very few packages where it looks..

I will wait for akabei with great expectation, I hope it will rise to their mates yaourt/emerge (in terms of number of packets, not in efficiency)

Regards

Re: New Chakra ISO

Hello and welcome to Chakra! Thank you for your kind words! smile

About your issues/requests:

1> I don't exactly  get what's wrong with the nxclient package that is already in CCR. Also, remember to vote for it if you want it in official repos.
2> Our community repository is CCR, and it's growing along with Chakra. Remember we are a young project.
3> Packer isn't a Chakra tool. Installing stuff with it is not at all the recommended way of getting an application from AUR in Chakra. It was just added temporarily in the repos.
4> If you miss any packages from CCR, the best way to obtain them from Arch repos/AUR is either do it your self, following the simple guide on the wiki, or using the aur2ccr application. Otherwise, you can request for packages in the appropriate forum section, and wait for someone else to respond.
5> I don't see how Akabei and the number of packages in the repos are related. tongue

Re: New Chakra ISO

Thank you!

1> It fails to compile nx-common. I tried in two different computers, 32 and 64 chakra editions. Both fails. Also fails compile from nomachine.com

BUT precompiled binary from nomachine.com works (I swear that I had already tried...)

2> CCR works (not for nx-common package, not for my two computers at least) very smoothly and nicely, I wish it will grow faster wink  Good job!!!

3, 4> didn't know. When arrived to chakra from arch I  fought to make work yaourt. What seems quite impossible. Then I read somewhere on the forums that packer would do the job, and at the begining it done... but now it fails at almost every packet I try to install, sometimes returning weird errors...  I will follow these guides to see if I am able to install anything I want.

Thank you!! smile

Re: New Chakra ISO

Yes, there seems to be an issue with this package. In this case, you should leave a comment on the CCR page of the package, describing your error.
This is the best way for the maintainer of this package to be informed about the issue.
As you can see here, I did it for you this time.
