As I write this, both x86_64 and i686 are about finished building kdepim, the last package.
This is mainly a bug fix release. Changes in the build for Chakra are that some patches are removed. One needs good testing, the reversal high-cpu patch. If you notices stalls/glitches in many KDE apps, but Dolphin the most, please report, and KDE-workspace will be rebuild, to add this patch again.
And as always, give your mirrors time to sync, avoid partial updates causing system breakage.

Installed (64 bits) and icontask bar has disappeared.

X64 here too, no problems. Dolphin seems fine, no cpu hiccups.

So far can't find any issue with icontasks, will try a few more installs.

Ok, that was interesting . . .
All machines up-to-date before doing the KDE 4.8.1 update. All have Archimedes DVD install and running the same themes and widgets. Netbook using Wicd, the other two NetworkManager. Nepomuk reports 390 indexed files on the netbook (which is virtually empty), and approx 30 files each on the big machines that have tons more stuff on them.
Machine #1:
Linux Pawse 3.2-CHAKRA #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Feb 28 10:54:20 UTC 2012 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Seems to have updated flawlessly. Three desktop widgets (analog clock, yawp, luna2) all present and accounted for. No obvious problems with the system so far.
Machine #2:
Linux eeePC1000 3.2-CHAKRA #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Feb 28 10:54:20 UTC 2012 i686 Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Super-slow response to mouse clicks (~10 secs), mouse movement normal. Re-booted. Same problem. Re-booted again - mouse back to normal. Nepomuk??
Where did my desktop widgets go??? ![]()
Analog Clock needed to be added. Yawp has disappeared from the system. Luna2 has disappeared from the system.
Re-installed kdeplasma-applets-yawp and re-added it to the desktop.
Had to re-compile Luna2. Had to re-install both cmake and automoc4 to do that. Both of those removed from the system too. Added Luna2 back to the Desktop.
Machine #3:
Linux ananda 3.2-CHAKRA #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Feb 28 14:55:18 UTC 2012 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2300 CPU @ 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
No problems with the mouse.
See Machine #2 - widgets disappeared from Desktop, Yawp and Luna, cmake and automoc4 disappeared from system.
Re-installed. Everything seems to be working fine.
I'll continue to play . . . ![]()

Updated with Apper (x64) everything works perfectly.
Tested Dolphin especially couldn't find anything (CPU usage).
Offline
CPU usage will not be the issue, but having this fix, which came at the very last minute from KDE for the 4.8.0 release, did cause a regression then (applications hanging, especially dolphin). So Chakra reversed that for the 4.8.0 release. This time it is left in, and so far, it seems no such regressions.
Offline
I couldn't upgrade with Apper, but that was expected (I needed pacman -Syuf since I was using several KDE 4.8.1 git snapshots compiled by me)
How is your Nepomuk experience with 4.8.1? Can you report?
Offline
Nepomuk runs smooth.
there seems to be an issue with kdeinit I experienced this when opening VLC and Dolphin and watched different movies and opening different times Dolphin. Sometimes the VLC and Dolphin process doesn't end and stays in the memory. I'm not able to end the process, Not that it is a big issue it could become an issue when the "uptime" of the system is high and severel processes take memory.
Ok clarification.....after further testing it appears that after 20 to 30 minutes the processes disappear.....so I guess its ok.

Just upgraded, cleaned out my akonadi and nepomuk databases/configs. kmail searching doesn't work. I'm using 2 disconnected IMAP resources and one local maildir. Not sure if it's Chakra's fault, but nepomuk & virtuoso segfault at some point. (the time indicated is around my searching experiments).
[128561.985403] virtuoso-t[26127]: segfault at 20 ip 00000000004bb16e sp 00007f9e83a68808 error 4 in virtuoso-t[400000+99a000]
[128613.155939] nepomukservices[26343]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f33d4535b53 sp 00007f33c82ec240 error 4 in libsoprano.so.4.3.0[7f33d44cd000+fa000]I also noticed that shared-desktop-ontologies is still at 0.8.1, while 0.9 is out. I think I remember vaguely some kind of fix in there from upstream.
For Nepomuk + akonadi : it doesn't slow down my machine, memory usage is acceptable.
PS : just got a confirm for the segfault on opensuse, using 4.8.0 though.

Everything seems to be running smoothly here. Nepomuk/strigi performance is amazingly reduced, and dolphin has no problems that I can see.
Offline
Kmail search works now, logging out and back in fixed everything. No more segfaults. And KDE is perfectly usable with nepomuk etc enabled. Running konqueror, kontact, krusader, bangarang, telepathy, konversation and indexing all at the same time, and memory usage is at 1,1GB.
No visible packaging issues arose.
As a bonus my intel graphic card hanging problem seems to have retreated to a minimum...
Thanks to all chakra people for the wonderful work!

As I expected, Nepomuk runs a lot smoother than KDE 4.8.0, even when the Akonadi-Nepomuk bridge is enabled.
My mem usage is 1.3 GB on a 32 bit 2GB system, with Nepomuk and Akonadi enabled, a Nepomuk database of 670 MB, and with all my favorite Akonadi resources enabled, all info about artists fetched in Bangarang and with the experimental music:/ IO slave.
We've finally got there.
