Chakra Alpha 2 - 2009-02-19

Today we're pleased to announce the release of Alpha 2 of our very own Chakra LiveCD. It contains a big amount of fixed bugs and polishing, which has been done all over the place. There is also a slew of new features like a improved hardware detection, a new localization page in Tribe, LZMA compression and a brand new USB Image to allow installation without wasting a CD.

Please test this release wherever possible, and most of all, on real hardware. Report bugs, or even better send us patches and share your ideas. The place where all of this happens is our Bugtracker, please be sure to register on it. Also check our Wiki, a lot of questions are already answered.

Credits go to our great team and additionally Patrick Spendrin and Torsten Rahn for fixing a bunch of crashes inside Marble!

System Requirements:

a Intel Pentium II or higher processor for the i686 version, or
a 64Bit-capable processor for the x86_64 version
384MiB of RAM for running the live system and 512MiB of RAM for the installation (the more the better)
around 3GiB of available hard disk space (the more the better)
a screen capable of 1024 x 600 or higher resolution
a reasonably fast internet connection, e.g. no modem (you wont have fun with this)

Only accept digits, lowercase letters and "-" for user- and hostnames
Hide advanced entries by default on Bootloader Page
Unmount already mounted partitions before installation (resulted in a failed installation) (bugs #38, #74)
Fix a crash if no partitions are available (bug #39)
Make use of a swap partition optional
Add all detected kernel modules to the modules array rc.conf
Show name of proprietary licenses instead of just the package name
Don't install Grub if not requested (bug #108)
Prevent from inserting the same partition or mountpoint more than once
Stabilized Page handling (bugs #13, #23)
New localization page based on marble
Only generate locales specified in /etc/locale.gen
