Release Information:

Chakra Alpha 3 (Test) - 2009-09-30

Today we're pleased to announce the release of Alpha 3 (Test) of our very own Chakra LiveCD. It contains a big amount of fixed bugs and polishing, which has been done all over the place. There is also a slew of new features like a improved hardware detection, an autoupdater called chase, updated shaman and a brand new Hybrid-Image to allow installation without wasting a CD.

Please test this release wherever possible, and most of all, on real hardware. Report bugs, or even better send us patches and share your ideas. The place where all of this happens is our Bugtracker, please be sure to register on it. Also check our Wiki, a lot of questions are already answered.

Credits go to our great team and additionally Phil Miller and Dario Freddi for fixing testing chase, shaman and tribe/tribelauncher combo.

With love,
The Chakra Team

Installer Updates

Even when we got alpha3 out we still want to fix bugs in our installer. Therefore we created tribelauncher. It searches for a new update of tribe and installs it. Some people claim that versions higher than 20090929, which is on the disc, crashing at some points. To get tribe better we need some backtraces from you guys. Here is a little tutorial how to help us best.

First run a pacman -Q kdemod-tribe kdemod-tribe-partitionmanager to find out your running version.

If Tribe fails at any point it might be the tribelauncher. For bugtracking please start tribelauncher from console with:

tribelauncher

You can start tribe from console also with:

sudo tribe

To install Chakra to your USB device write the Hybrid.iso to your stick with:

dd if=chakra-[arch]-090930-alpha3-test.iso of=/dev/sd[x]

(where [arch] is i686 or x86_64 and [x] the device entry of your USB-stick)

Little tutorial

We assume your usb-stick is recognized as /dev/sdb. So the cmd you should use is:

dd if=chakra-i686-090930-alpha3-test.iso of=/dev/sdb

Also you can read this wiki-post about our Hybrid-ISO.
